John D. Sawyer

Mr. Sawyer is a bankruptcy, business and tax attorney.  A principal attorney at Sawyer Azarcon PLC since 1987, Mr. Sawyer holds a Masters Degree in Law and Taxation (MLT), and is a member of the bars in Virginia, District of Columbia and Massachusetts. He completed his Law studies at New England School of Law, Boston, MA in 1975, and Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC in 1980.  Mr. Sawyer also has business and marketing degrees, and has published and taught extensively in the areas of business law and taxation.

Mr. Sawyer is engaged in general practice of law, and has an extensive experience in personal injury, veterans benefits, military law, administrative and judicial appeals, individual, business and corporate taxation, small business start ups and financing, estate planning, business valuations, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, commercial and administrative law, immigration, domestic relations, and  bankruptcy. He also practices before Tax Court and IRS including bankruptcy discharge, offers in compromise, installment agreements, appeals, tax negotiations, tax planning and asset protection planning. He also has additional experience in numerous personal injury and civil litigations, first chair jury trial and first chair arbitration proceedings and felony jury trial.

Januario G. Azarcon

Mr. Azarcon has practiced law since 1981 in the metropolitan DC area.  His law practice covers business and personal bankruptcies, domestic relations, family law, immigration, and physical injuries.  A principal attorney at Sawyer Azarcon PLC since 1987, he is a member of the bars in Virginia, District of Columbia, as well as the Philippines.  Mr. Azarcon has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines, Quezon City, Philippines in 1975, and a Master of Comparative Law from George Washington University, Washington, DC in 1981.  He has extensive experience in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 personal and business bankruptcy filings.

Mr. Azarcon’s practice includes special interests in adversary proceedings defending objections to discharge, motions for relief from stay, motion to dismiss and recovery of assets. He has also represented plaintiffs and defendants in contested and uncontested divorce, custody, support, guardianship, adoption, drafting and negotiating separation and prenuptial agreements, as well as aliens in deportation cases before the immigration court and appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals.  Mr. Azarcon also handles family-based and employment-based immigration, including H-1Bs and labor certification for permanent residence. He is also involved in the negotiation and litigation of physical injury claims and other civil cases.
