Januario G. Azarcon

Mr. Azarcon has practiced law since 1981 in the metropolitan DC area. His law practice covers business and personal bankruptcies, domestic relations, family law, immigration, business transactions and physical injuries.

A principal attorney at Sawyer Azarcon PLC since 1987, he is a member of the bars in Virginia, District of Columbia, as well as the Philippines.  Mr. Azarcon has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines, Quezon City, Philippines in 1975, and a Master of Comparative Law from George Washington University, Washington, DC in 1981.  He has an extensive experience in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 personal and business bankruptcy filings.

Mr. Azarcon’s bankruptcy practice includes defending in adversary proceedings, objections to discharge, motions for relief from stay, motion to dismiss, recovery of assets, and formulating wage earner plans and business plans of reorganization. He has also represented plaintiffs and defendants in contested and uncontested divorce, custody, support, guardianship, adoption, drafting and negotiating separation and prenuptial agreements, as well as aliens in deportation cases before the immigration court and appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals.

Mr. Azarcon also handles family-based and employment-based immigration, including H-1Bs and labor certification for permanent residence. He is also involved in the negotiation and litigation of physical injury claims and other civil cases.

Mr. Azarcon is president of the company that publishes The Manila Mail, a bi-weekly Filipino-American newspaper published in Washington, DC where he writes on immigration, social and political issues.  He currently resides in Fairfax, VA.
